You’re never going to forget to travel across New Zealand. Wandering fields, omnipresent mountains, lakes, and sharp shores are filled with beauty. If you want to have a bungee jump and go skydiving or relax with a sea kayaking tour or a Maori homestay, it doesn’t matter what kind of traveler you are in New Zealand offers many wonderful things to do.
Fortunately, we have had a lot of time in New Zealand and we have chosen to help make it easier for you to prepare and share our top 9 visitor places in New Zealand tour.
Queenstown
This is New Zealand’s adrenaline capital with more activities than you could shake! From rafting and jet boating to snowboarding, skydiving, and skiing!! Not only that but Queenstown is a lovely place to kick off and relax with wanderers around the bay, panoramic Skyline views as well as lovely mountain scenery. It is also extremely central to some of the best natural sites in New Zealand, including Milford Sound, Cardrona, and Coronet Peak.
Auckland
The largest city in New Zealand (but not the capital!) is where the majority of people either begin or end their Kiwi adventure. It’s the perfect location to start with art galleries, cafés, restaurants, and all the thrill of city living. Sip waterfront drinks or have a look at Skytower or spring on a ferry and relax in the wine area of Waiheke.
Rotorua
Rotorua is NZ’s geothermal center and thus smells very funky. But let the rotten egg scent not put you away! It’s an incredible stop to see and do in New Zealand! Wai-O-Tapu is known for the geothermal wonderland of Lady Knox Geyser, 18km2 of geothermal systems, and bubbling pools of mud, which rack temperatures of more than 100oC. If you’re following a mud-bath that doesn’t leave you as fucked like a blessed egg then head over to Hells Gate to indulge in bubbling mud spas, which are seemingly unbelievable for you.
Taupo
Taupo is sure to please you with his beautiful lake! Skip out of a cheap plane (seriously, this is one of New Zealand’s cheapest skydives!) And take the amazing lake views as you fall at terminal speed. Tackle Huka Drives 360° along the Waikato River at a jet-boat and pace. To relax in the lake or to test your balance with paddleboarding Stand Up – this is your call! Taupo is also the ideal base to ride on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, one of New Zealand’s best day trips with the scenery of Lord of the Rings that makes it worthwhile!
Hobbiton
While this is not a stopover in New Zealand, Hobbiton is a highlight for any Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fan just outside the North Islands Matamata! The place is truly lovely with rolling green hills that make you feel like you’re in The Shire. The place is really good. And the Green Dragon Inn has its own bar with local brews influenced by Middle Eastern beers. While you’re not an enormous film fan, it still makes you an incredible place to explore and update your Hobbit Hole selfie on Facebook!
Franz Josef
This sleepy town on the South Island’s west coast is a motorway for backpackers since they have access to glaciers. You can wander free of charge to the base and see how imposing it is, but you can take a special glacier hike if you want to get a little further to the glacier (which you should) and explore the caves and the ice-creamy scenery of that beautiful region. You can take a helicopter trip and land on the glacier, and explore some of it, and most people don’t have the opportunity to view it! I
Wellington
Without visiting the capital of Wellington, you cannot go to New Zealand. It’s the windiest town in the world but don’t let the name put you off. It’s worth visiting the city itself, known as “Windy Wellington.’ Take the cable car to the viewing points or visit the world-renowned Te Papa Museum. Wellington also houses Zealand, a huge wildlife sanctuary with a 500-year goal to restore the forest and freshwater habitats of the Wellington Valley as close to their prehuman condition as possible. You are also lucky if you enjoy craft beer because Wellington is the handmade capital of New Zealand, and it hosts some of the finest beers of the Southern Hemisphere.
Raglan
A few hours south of Auckland, this laid-back hippie town is pretty, so beautiful, that in 2018 it had been voted the most lovely small city. If you are looking for a slower pace of life (yes even slower than the usual Kiwi pace!), Raglan is where you should be heading And a few amazing surfing, particularly. A goofy dream footer, made popular by the Endless Summer 2 is here the left point splits. Don’t worry, there aren’t any fantastic surfing schools in the region that will get you to pro surf from utter kook!
Bay of Islands
The amazing Bay Of Islands is on the right to the tip of North Island – about three hours drive from Auckland. Spots such as Paihia, Cape Regina, and Russell deliver everything from seeing dolphins, boarding sand, sailing, picturesque views, and, of course, heaps of island fancy. Each island with 144 islands has something else, but each island is worth visiting. We suggest checking Paihia with its incredible natural locations such as the Hole at the Rock (which is much more spectacular than it sounded) and Haruru Falls if you only have time for one island. Snorkeling or scubaing in the islands is also possible.
